At the General Assembly Meeting of March 8, 2009, I was inaugurated as President of the Korean Rhinologic Society. Last year Korean economy suffered a great deal nationally and internationally. Despite all the difficulties, the Korean Rhinologic Society has grown steadily thanks to the endeavors made by former President Tae-Young Chang and other directors. As new President, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for all their efforts and hard work.
But, most of all, I am also grateful to each and every member of the Society for their continuous teaching, doing research, and practicing medicine while offering assistance and advice when needed.
The economic outlook of Korea this year does not seem to be bright yet and so is our working environment of medicine. I am a little concerned as how much I can do for the Society as President. However, I promise to make every endeavor for the development of the Korean Rhinologic Society along with the new competent and enthusiastic board of directors.
I will make every effort to prepare for valuable academic meetings and symposia so that more members will be able to present their research studies and find the occasions as the venue for academic exchange and friendship.
As the majority of our members are medical practitioners, I will plan for useful programs in a joint symposium along with the Korean Association of Otorhinolaryngology Practitioners. I will organize as many case-study presenting sessions as possible so that you can obtain innovative ideas for your clinical trials.
We have seven proud research departments. I will fully support to promote the research of each department. Also, thanks to our vigorous efforts, our proud Journal of Rhinology obtained the registered candidacy of the National Research Foundation (NRF). I requested Prof. Yong-Ju Jang to keep his good work as the Editor-in-Chief. With Prof. Jang, I will do my best to make our journal the registered journal of the NRF.
We¡¯ve continued our relationship with the Japan Rhinologic Society since the former President Si-Young Jeon started it, but our exchange was not active enough. I will try harder to revitalize the exchange with them. Also, I would like to pave the way to build the new cooperation with China, the country which has yet to be explored, but has great potential.
Next year, the Korean Rhinologic Society will celebrate our twentieth anniversary as an academic society. Being a twenty-year-old as human means being an adult. Likewise, this society should also move forward to seek for ways to serve our country and society. I want all of you to work as our advisers. Furthermore, I would like to collect and sort data to publish our twenty years of history. It might be difficult to collect the data unless many of you assist and guide us.
I promise again and again that I will pour all my efforts with the board of directors. I will also ask of your love, support, and wisdom. Thank you very much.
